Yoga is a powerful tool for self-discovery, growth & transformation

Why I do practice yoga

People often assume that I must be a calm and zen person because I teach yoga. However, the truth is that I practice yoga to maintain my mental and physical well-being. Initially, I started practicing yoga to keep my body in shape, like many others. I began with hatha yoga, which is a slow and steady practice that allowed me to hold poses for extended periods. This practice helped me root myself in the poses, strengthen my muscles, and develop body awareness. I practiced hatha yoga for about 12 years before seeking something more physically challenging, which led me to discover ashtanga yoga in 2018. Both practices aim to still the mind while controlling the body and breath.

Yoga Is Not Just Exercise or Relaxation

For me, yoga is not just a physical exercise or a form of relaxation; it has become a way of life. It has become an integral part of my daily routine and has transformed me both physically and mentally.

Here are a few reasons why yoga has become a lifestyle for me:

1. Mind-Body Connection: Yoga has taught me the importance of connecting my mind, body, and breath. Through various poses and breathing exercises, I have learned to be fully present in the moment and listen to my body’s needs. This connection has increased my self-awareness, leading to inner peace.

2. Stress Relief: In today’s fast-paced world, stress is a common part of our lives. Yoga has provided me with a much-needed escape from the daily hustle and bustle. The combination of gentle movements, deep breathing, and meditation has helped me reduce stress levels and find calm and relaxation. It has become my go-to practice whenever I need to unwind and find balance amidst the chaos.

3. Physical Strength and Flexibility: Regular practice of yoga has improved my physical strength and flexibility. The different poses challenge various muscle groups and enhance overall body strength. Additionally, the stretching and lengthening of muscles in yoga poses have increased my flexibility and range of motion. This not only improves my physical performance in other activities but also helps prevent injuries.

4. Mental Clarity and Focus: Yoga has taught me how to quiet my mind and find mental clarity. The combination of breath work and meditation has helped me let go of racing thoughts and find inner stillness. This mental clarity has translated into improved focus and concentration in other areas of my life. I feel more grounded and centered, enabling me to approach tasks with a clear and focused mind.

5. Self-Care and Self-Love: Yoga has taught me the importance of prioritizing self-care and self-love. By dedicating time to my yoga practice, I am taking care of my physical and mental well-being. It has become a form of self-expression and self-nurturing. Through yoga, I have learned to listen to my body’s needs, honor my limitations, and be kind to myself. It has helped me cultivate a deeper sense of self-acceptance and love.

I practice yoga to maintain my mental and physical well-being.

Yoga has become my go-to practice whenever I need to unwind and find balance amidst the chaos.
